The must-sees:
Gíslaholt (Borganess, Iceland)
200 to 250$ per night (with a minimum stay of 2 nights)
I’ve already praised this accommodation in my article on our Iceland road trip (see day 9). A little corner of paradise in the middle of nowhere, but strategically located 60-75 minutes from Reykjavik. It’s the central point for visiting the Silver Circle and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. There are two identical cottages on the grounds, and ours is the better placed considering the clearance to see the sunset from the terrace. The accommodation is very well equipped for cooking and, above all, very clean.
The hosts are really nice, quick on the uptake and offered us a unique experience at an affordable price: a horseback ride around their property.

Acropolis Golden Suites (Athens, Greece)
170$/night (april 2024) with a minimum stay of 2 nights
This is one of the most luxurious AirBnBs we’ve visited in our travels and will have missed our trip to Greece. First of all, excellent communication from the hosts before we even took off to Greece. Transportation from the airport to the accommodation was arranged easily and affordably. We were also offered room service (including delicious breakfasts delivered promptly).
The cleanliness of this accommodation is indisputable. We were amazed when we arrived, even though it was 2am. The accommodation is equipped with mechanical shutters to provide total darkness for sleeping, and a balcony with table and chairs for eating outside.
And the icing on the cake: the location. It’s at the foot of the acropolis – less than 5 minutes’ walk). Imagine eating your gyros on the roof terrace overlooking this symbol of Greece.

Lemon in the air (Pontone, Italy)
400-500/night (high season) with a minimum stay of 3 nights
It’s a recommendation from my partner. This is the place to go if the Amalfi Coast is your destination. The property is lined with lemon trees and lemon means homemade Limoncello on arrival. Communication with host Bérangère is very pleasant and easy. She’ll be able to give you all the good addresses in the area and even suggest a home-cooked meal using produce from their property. A view of the sea from the top of the hill, peace and quiet are guaranteed while you’re close to Amalfi. Its two bedrooms and bathroom make it ideal for a trip with family or friends. Bonus point for air conditioning in hot weather.

Unique cabin in Vik (Vik, Iceland)
280/night (in June 2024) with no minimum nightly stay
I also praised it in my article on our Iceland road trip (see Day 2). It’s a small cabin that offers everything you need to cook and relax after a day on the road. A grocery store is a 5-minute walk away, and you can also fill up with petrol afterwards.

Noteworthy ones:
Stanza Rossa al Cinque Terre (Manarola , La Spezia, Italy)
93$/night (in September 2024) with a minimum stay of 2 nights
Cinque Terre was clearly my favorite segment of my trip to Italy (in 2016). This accommodation isn’t the most luxurious … from the inside. From the outside … woah. It’s been a few years, but I still have fond memories of it.

The disappeared:
Heart of Surry Hills (Sydney, Australia)
Unfortunately, I can’t find this accommodation again, which I had enjoyed. It wasn’t necessarily among the best, but the location and the hosts were worth the cost. The Surry Hills district is, in my opinion, a « must » in Sydney.

338 Raglan (Warrnambool, Australia)
I recently learned that the hosts had ceased operations and put the house up for sale. 338 Raglan didn’t offer me great luxury, but it did give me all the little touches you wouldn’t necessarily think of. It was perfect. The hosts had even invited us for an aperitif when we arrived. Warrnambool is the perfect place to cut a road trip on the Great Ocean Road in half. In fact, I suggest this itinerary (in french) if you’re interested.
